What is the Eagle population for March and when do the Ross geese leave? Thanks. |

The wintering eagle population has peaked and one should expect to see fewer now than a month ago. Butte Valley usually has a good number of eagles well after they are scarce on the Klamath refuges. They are feeding on ground squirrels, so go to the farmlands, on both sides of Highway 97, that have lots of Belding Ground Squirrels and you should see a fair number of both eagle species. Ross' Geese can usually be seen in good numbers up to about the first week in April. Miller Island can still have a large population at that time. |

By this time, mid to late May, almost all of the wintering eagle population had gone. There is still a good number of breeding eagles in the area. |

There are at least three pairs of Bald Eagles nesting near the HQ of Butte Valley Wildlife Area. |
